I gave this book 1/2 star on LibraryThing. Here is my review:

It is not the story, or the action, or the details that I don't like. Nor is it the fact that the book reminds me too much of the superior World War Z by Max Brooks.

It's the writing I don't like. The prose itself was so overblown, over written and pretentious that I found it hard to tolerate. In a book partially made up of first person accounts and recollections, it would seem necessary to have authentic sounding characters. Instead, we have people who work in a frozen yogurt shop telling a story like they're channeling Joe Lansdale on speed. Nobody in the book sounds natural except the artificial intelligence that is trying to kill everybody.

I understand that Wilson was trying to write an interesting and engaging book, but his efforts crossed a line into an area of writing so purple that Jimi Hendrix would have had trouble seeing through the haze.

Don't believe me? Fine. Do what I did. You have the print copy, right? Okay, so go to the library and check out the audio book version. Hearing the prose read aloud actually makes it worse!

*******

I haven't listen to the show yet, so I don't know if you liked it or not. Obviously, I didn't.
